General Dermatology
Dermatology-venereology is a broad specialty that covers diseases of the skin, nails, hairs and mucosa. It also includes the dermatological manifestations of systemic diseases and sexually transmitted diseases in all their manifestations.
Some examples of reasons to consult a dermatologist:
- Skin disorders: psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, acne, vitiligo, urticaria, warts, acute or chronic skin rashes, melasma, skin cancers (screening for skin cancers, mole changes (nevi), non-healing crust or wound, growing spot, treatment of actinic keratoses. ...), mycosis, scabies, bacterial infections (impetigo, cellulitis, abscesses), ulcers and wounds, itching, mollusca contagiosa, lichen planus, lupus, bullous diseases, Verneuil's disease...
- Nail disorders: ingrown toenails, infections (mycosis, bacterial infections), detachment, thickening, change of colour, pain...
- Hair or scalp conditions: localized or diffuse hair loss (alopecia), acute or chronic hair loss (effluvium), scalp itching or pain...
- Conditions affecting the mucosa (oral, female and male genital, anal): sexually transmitted diseases (syphilis, condyloma, herpes, gonorrhoea, chlamydia), lichen planus, lichen sclerosus, psoriasis, tumors or ulcerations...
