Collagen inducers (Sculptra®)

Sculptra® is an injectable product of vegetal origin containing microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a member of the alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) or fruit acid family. It is a biocompatible and biodegradable injectable product that stimulates collagen production. PLLA particles injected into the deep dermis recruit fibroblasts to produce collagen. It is your own collagen that is stimulated, the skin's mesh is tightened, with a firming, lifting and plumping effect.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM SCULPTRA® INJECTIONS?

- People who want gradual, natural and long-lasting results, without the appearance of having undergone a recent cosmetic procedure.
- People with volume loss: hollow temples, tear troughs, nasolabial folds, hollow cheeks, bitterness folds, wrinkled cheeks....
- People with a sagging oval of the face.
- People with mild to moderate collagen loss.
- People with signs of skin sagging, loss of laxity or damaged skin.

WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS?

- Pregnancy and breast-feeding
- Bleeding disorders, including those induced by medication
- Inflammation or skin infection in the area to treat

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Transient and related to the injection: bleeding, pain, local redness, bruising, swelling.
Rare: appearance of nodules, areas of induration and inflammation. Nodules may form if Sculptra ® has not been administered correctly. Massage of the injection area after treatment helps to minimise the risk of these nodules forming.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?

Results appear progressively with the biostimulation of collagen. On average, Sculptra® provides significant results after 6 weeks. The average length of correction is 2 years. It depends on the number of initial sessions, but also on the personal ageing process, general condition, weight loss, etc.
The number of initial sessions varies according to the degree of sagging and the quality of collagen stimulation obtained. For optimum results, a minimum of 2 initial sessions spaced 4 to 10 weeks apart are generally required. In the event of significant loss of volume or significant skin sagging, an additional session will be required.

HOW DOES A SESSION WORK?

Before the session: Avoid taking anti-inflammatories or anti-aggregating agents.
During the session: The injections are virtually almost painless thanks to the use of a cannula and a local anaesthetic.
After the session: Normal activities can be continued immediately, and make-up can be applied. To ensure an even result, the patient should massage the treated areas for 5 minutes 5 times a day for 5 days. At the end of the session, there is an immediate increase in volume, which is linked to the volume injected. This effect fades in the following days, and the real results begin to appear a few weeks later, with an overall improvement in the skin's wrinkles, firmness and elasticity, and restoration of volume.
